Red, White & Blue
June 18th, 2010 | By NicholasGray | Category: Bibles Direct Latest
How to celebrate 400 years of the King James Bible? Why not a special Allan Bible to mark this special anniversary?
I’m thinking of something patriotic since the Queen holds the copyright to the Authorized Version of the Bible. And something to appeal across the wide ocean of Bible lovers. So we’ve settled on the KJV Longprimer setting - Allan’s best - to be bound in Atlantic blue calfskin with full leather linings, embellished with white head and tail bands, blue under gold page edges, and cardinal red ribbon markers.
The Longprimer Blue, with red and white thrown in for good measure.
That should be a bit special. Watch out for full details as we approach the quadcentennial year of 2011.

Wow!!! My cup runneth over…just when I thought Allan’s Bibles could not get any better they excel themselves…I just can’t wait to see this edition in the flesh. Thank you for all the thought, care and design that goes into your Bibles.

Would this be with silver gilt?

Or will this special edition have art-gilt page edges?

The Longprimer is a bit bigger than I like, but this would be hard for me to pass on (unless you opt to give the same treatment to a Clarendon).

This sounds wonderful–especially the blue under gold page edges. I am wondering what motivates the choice to go with calfskin rather than goatskin, though. Is there a technical reason for that choice (ie, is the calfskin easier to dye blue, or something)? Just curious.

On such an occasion, would it be appropriate to include more background information (Hampton Court, Tyndale’s translation, etc.)? We will celebrate 400 years of using the KJV, but we could, as well, acknowledge the years leading up to its creation.
We are all anxious to see what next year brings!!

Thank you for all these really helpful questions and comments. I think I’ve answered them all personally this time.

Nicholas,
I’m really curious about what shade the Atlantic Blue Calfskin will actually look like. Any chance you could either direct us to a pic somewhere online that shows us a similar calfskin color or maybe have a pic of just the leather?
I’m 99.9% sure I want one of these, and my curiosity about the color is driving me crazy. Thanks!
